Charts no longer viewable

Hi, I am having a problem viewing charts on a spreadsheet. When I click on a chart, I can see it. But when I click off of the chart, it turns to a square with a very fine black and white dotted pattern. So if there are 3 charts on a sheet, only one can be viewed at a time, and only if it has been clicked on.

I have tried inserting charts from a previous version of the file, copying the entire worksheet over, creating new charts. Nothing works, as soon as the chart is created and loses focus, it goes to the pattern. It seems I have corrupted the file somehow. Any ideas?
