    Named Range In Chart

How do you create a named range in a chart? Therefore allowing it to select only data that is brought back as an actual value rather than #num?

    Thanks in advance

    Alex

    Re: Named Range In Chart

    hi Alex,

As mubashir aziz suggests helpers will find it much easier to help if you upload a sample file. This can be done via the paperclip above the advanced message typing area or the "manage attachments" button underneath it.

From my understanding of your post, you may need to build some error checking into the data for your charts to remove or at least identify the cause of the "#num" errors.
    #NUM! Error
Entering a non-numeric argument to a function that expects a numeric value. A function or a value that evaluates to a numeric value beyond the Excel’s capabilities to handle. Result of a function that could not find a valid value in spite multiple iterations.

If you are willing to do some guided learning, Jon Peltier has a wide ranging list of charting examples on his site including some dynamic ones: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/Dynamics.html
He also shows an example (http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/p...?ID=209#jon020) of overcoming blanks in chart data which could possibly be modified to overcome your #num errors.

    Alternatively, Dave Hawley's site states:
    Return #N/A
Using the same example as above in Hiding Rows or Columns follow these steps:
Place the month names Jan:Dec in cells C1:C12
In cell B1 type =NA() and copy it down to B12
In cell A1 type =IF(ISERROR(B1),B1,D1) and copy it down to A12
As you enter the sales figure for the month you will type over the =NA().
This will mean that if the sales figure has not been entered for any month both the month column (Column A) and the sales figure column (Column B) will return #N/A. Excel will not plot #N/A.

Dave elaborates on how to narrow down what the error type is in this thread (need additional knowledge of error types): http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26716
