Can I add a subtotal of 3 columns in a pivot table?

I want to get a subtotal of columns B C and D in a pivot table. I have tried to add a calculated item to a pivot table to add columns B C and D. When I try adding a calcuted item I am getting an additional column inserted after columns B C and D. Each additional column has the previous column duplicated. I want a subtotal of column B C and D. I don't want to use the grand total function because I also have columns E through H that I don't want in the subtotal.

How can I get the columns B C and D subtotaled within the pivot table?

    Hi Dave H,

That extra column you're getting may be the Total column that Pivots automatically apply.

You can remove them by going to the Pivot Table Options >> Totals & Filters & uncheck the 'Show Grand totals for Rows/Columns.

This is weird because it works on a sample data pivot table but doesn't work for the file I need. The grand totals and subtotals are turned off however I am getting a an extra column after every column of data. I am sure there is a reason for it but I can't seem to figure out why.

Are B C and D items in one field in the data or separate fields? If they are separate you require a Calculated Field and not a Calculated Item.

The issue resulted from having two header fields for my columns. One field I used numbers to arrange them in the proper order. The other was a true title that didn't lend it to sorting effectively. Once I dropped the numbered header then the calculated item worked fine. I just had to drag and drop my columns to get them arranged as desired.

    Hi Dave H,

Can you post a copy of your file so we can see what's happening?

    Thanks
