    Chart Fill Effect Transparency Disabled

I am trying to format the Chart Area to get the transparent fill effect.

When I go to format chart area - Pattern => Area => Fill Effects and Gradient.

The transparency options are disabled. How to enable them?

    I have attached the screenshot.

Hi, as far as I know, transparency cannot be set on all elements of the chart. Unfortunately the option does show whenever you select fill effects, but it is only active for those that can be set. Frustrating, I know....

In Excel 2010 you can click on the area, select "Format Data Series", then "Fill/Solid fill". Once you have selected "Solid fill" or many of the other options you can make it transparent. Not for Patterns though...so if you are printing in B&W you are SOL.
