Referencing a cell as text in a chart

I have been trying to figure out a way referencing a cell and adding that as text to a chart, but I don't know how to do it. I made a previous set of worksheets that had a graph in them, and the rest of the worksheet was set up as a template with references in the sentences so that each worksheet would have different data in their paragraphs.

I set the location of a chart to a worksheet and then the rows and columns (the way I could reference data from another worksheet) disappears. The chart doesn't seem to be an object in the worksheet, it is the entire sheet. I want to reference a number from another worksheet to add to each chart so that when I change the data in the worksheet, it not only updates the chart but the number that I have set as a number that displays on the chart.

I could do this like I did before, just make the chart an object in a worksheet and put text above it, one cell of which references the other worksheet with the data and then when I print the workbook the grid doesn't show up in the back ground. The problem is that this will require me to move all the existing charts each into an individual worksheet and theirs quite a few of them. Isn't there just an easy way to reference a cell and have its contents show ON TOP OF the chart?

If anyone can help me out with this I'd really appreciate it.

Hi,

you can insert a text box on a chart, even if the chart is on a chart sheet and not in a work sheet. With the text box selected, click the formula bar and enter

=Sheet1!$A$1

or any other cell reference. When the text in the referenced cell changes, the text box will be updated.
