Can't create chart on separate sheet

Apologies if this has been asked before, or if it is a known problem. It is not the easiest problem to find information about online

Anyway, I've recently migrated a user in our company from Windows 2k to Windows Vista (64-bit) - same version of Excel (2003).

When he selects data that he wants to turn in to a chart, he cannot put this on to a separate work sheet. The sheet is created ok but it is just a plain white sheet that is created. No bar chart/pie chart/any chart appears. It will however let him create the chart as an object in the active sheet.

Now this wouldn't be such an issue but a lot of the older workbooks that they have created in the past are set up in this way, and when he opens these old files (created in the old 2k setup) they behave in the same way (can't view the charts that are on their own sheets).

Does anybody know what is causing this issue?

does the pc have any print drivers installed?

Well, there are no local printers. There are two printers installed, but they are network printers.

It was the drivers, rather than the phycial printer networked or otherwsie, that was important.

what happens if you create a chart object, on a worksheet, and then change it's location to a chart sheet. Is the data and chart lost?

Can you post on of these non chart sheet workbooks?

If a chart object is created and then changed to a chart sheet, the chart sheet again appears blank. So it would appear the data and chart is lost.

I can't post any of them since they contain highly sensitive Oil & Gas information.

so the problem is with a specific workbook? you can not replicate this with simple test data.

As I explained in the first post - the problem is with any workbook..... I can replicate this with simple test data on his PC any time I want!

If I send you the workbook, you will see everything ok. The problem is only on this PC as far as I know. We have other similar x64 workstations that are due to be deployed, I will try to recreate the error. If it happens again then we have a serious problem on our hands.

This post was really just seeing if anybody has come across this problem before.

Andy, I investigated what you said about the print driver and you were correct. I simply added a network printer on and set it to default, and now charts appear ok.
