How do I change the scale on the x axis?

    Hello all,

I am new to Excel and want to change the labelling on the x axis. If you look at the picture I have attached, the x axis is labelled 1,2,3,4,5. I want the numbers on the x axis to be 5000, 11000, 25000, 90000, 300000. How do I change the numbers?

    thanks

    Hi Simonha,

    welcome to the forum.

If you do not specify category labels in your data series, Excel will number them. Try adding the numbers you specified in a column to the left of the data, then

    - click Select Data on the Chart Tools Design tab,
    - click Edit in the right hand section of the dialog box, underneath "Horizontal (Category) Axis labels"
    - select the column labels in your table and click OK

If that does not help, upload a workbook instead of a PDF and we can help you further.

    cheers

    Hi Simonha,

Right Click anywhere on your chart in Excel.

From the pop-up menu select "Select Data"

You should now see pop-up box called "Select Data Source"

In the pane on the left hand side will be a list of yourt two data sources for the chart.
In the right hand pane you should see a list of values "1 2 3 4 5" with a small "EDIT" button above

Click the EDIT button and select the range of cell that hold the values you want to show for your X - Axis values.

    Then Click Ok.

If still stuck, see if you can post a sample spreadsheet.

    Hope this helps.

Hi again. See attached. Better spreadsheet design would be to have the data labels to the Left of the data. Spreadsheet design should flow from top to bottom, left to right.

You can of course add the category labels to your initial chart, too. Click "Select Data" and Edit the Horizontal axis values.
