Simple chart problem but I can't work it out

I've researched the problem on the forum and can't resolve it. Here's the short version. I have a simple chart consisting of 4 values (sold prices of homes). The Y axis should be the range of prices from low to high. The X axis should be the date of the sale. I can get the sale prices in a simple line chart with data markers at each data point. I can get the Y axis correct. However, I cannot get the X axis to display the sale dates. I've used the chart data source box to select the cell range containing the dates (the cells are formatted as dates XX/XX/XX) but instead of actually showing the dates along the X axis, the chart shows 1/1/00, 1/2/00, 1/3/00, etc).

I know this should not be difficult but I can't seem to get it sorted out. Thanks for any help.
