x-axis problems

Hi all

Newbie to creating charts in excel.

Working out radiator prices in the attached spreadsheet. I'm having a problem with getting the x-axis to work correctly on the attached chart.

The x-axis is a value scale rather than a category scale but I can't see how to get excel to plot it correctly. The series for the 300 high radiators should have x-axis marks at 400, 800, 1200mm etc but it is just treating it as value 1,2,3 etc... Also, can I force excel to start at zero on the x-axis and the x-acis is showing values of 160 instead of 1600 etc.

Any help to correct these issues would be much appreciated.

G'day Larry and welcome to the forum,

I've modified your workbook. Basically as you explained "but it is just treating it as value 1,2,3 etc... " as I am a noob at charts as well I see it as the same thing so you must map the all data the same.

Now has I have xl2007 and you have xl2003. I don't know the steps to found the following.

"Hidden and Empty Cell Settings" (Found in the 'Select Data' menu box) Then the next step is to set the option format to hide 'hidden rows and columns" option and 'Connect data points with line".

I hope this is not clear as mud, I'm happy for someone else with more xl2003 exp. to explain more.

Alternative suggestion:

Change the chart to an XY Chart and assign each data series its original length values from Column B. The XY chart will take care of the proper spacing automatically.

Set the X axis to a minimum value of 300 and a maximum of 2100, and a major unit of 100.
