    Re: TimeLine Chart

    tek9step,

as you can probably see in the Excel timeline template file, there are several columns, i.e.

Year Event [42] Height Axis Label

Your own file only has three columns, i.e.

day - Date - Task Completed

So, you obviously lack data to build the chart as described in the vertex42 article. It's really all explained in the article, so why don't you have a proper, slow read and follow the instructions there, instead of me re-typing it all?

If you have a question about a specific aspect, please come back, but do try and do the leg work first.

    cheers

    Re: TimeLine Chart

    Hi Teylyn

i aint good at charts still a beginner but have given it a go.. Yess i know the example is a bit more complex.. so trying to learn.. I manage to get rid of the grid lines and set the x axis to dates but i would like it to appear e.g (21/06/10 Monday) .. I tried using label options from layout but some how i cant get labels to appear with above and below bars (instead getting 0).. Neither i can get the X Axis to appear in the middle (tryd selecting and moving it up but it dont move)..

I have attached with revised file

    Re: TimeLine Chart

    tek,

your file still only has three columns, whereas the tutorial in vertex has 5 columns with data, which all contribute to the chart. How do you expect to see a similar result without providing a similar input?

Again, the vertex tutorial has all the steps. I don't know what else to tell you if you don't adjust your data to the requirements of the sample.

    Re: TimeLine Chart

if you only want the labels without the height of the labels, follow the vertex tutorial and set all the height values to zero. This will result in the label texts overlapping, but that's what you specified.

If you want your labels readable and spread out vertically, then you will need to bite the apple and do the work. I won't do it for you.

    Re: TimeLine Chart

currently your data labels are displaying the Y value, you want the X value displayed.

Once the date is being displayed you need to change the Number format of either the data labels or data source.

    dd/mm/yyyy dddd

To get the x axis in the middle add the Y axis and set the min to -1 and max to 1.

Your Y data is text so is being treated as zero. Perhaps you should be using real values?
