Angry Labels for Data Points on a Scatter Chart

I am plotting a scatter chart (X, Y) using two columns of numbers. I have a third column containing the labels that belong to these numbers but have not been able to figure out how to get Excel 2007 to use that third column to provide the labels. It offers me three options for labels: use the first number, use the second number, or use the "series name". If I try using the series name and specify the third column as my series name, it puts ALL of the names next to each data point! I don't want to have to hand-tailor each data point's label (which is all that the Excel help tells me how to do). Here is what my data area looks like:
    Label X value Y value
    Jan 0.9 1.0
    Feb 0.8 1.1
    Mar 1.0 1.3
    etc etc etc
I want the chart to show the various data points, labeled as
    Jan, Feb, Mar, etc.

I assume the add-on is added to my installation of Excel2007. If I send the spreadsheet to others will they be able to see the labels?
Will they be able to modify the data with new labels and have the new ones displayed?

The addin is not required by anybody receiving your workbook.

The addin will link the data label to a cell. If the cell changes the data label will change.

New data points will not automatically be linked to new cells. That would require the use of the addin, in order to avoid do it manually.

    Hello,

I am having exactly the same problem, does the XY labeler work in excel 2003? Also is it possible to have the labels only appear when hovering over the point?

    Regards Stephen

Cool Re: Excel 2007 : Labels for Data Points on a Scatter Chart

Quick and cheerful...... use the cells in a sheet to produce a graph.

I wanted this to produce an overlay for a map. OS Grid References (UK ) are integers and for a small range (subtracting the min of X & min of Y in table) - colo(u)r cells coordinated from X/Y points, place a number (0-99) in the adjacent cell then merge about 8 cells to accommodate larger fonts. Zoomed down and take a screen dump. Sizing to 2 datum points on map in Photoshop is manual.
The hardest thing was getting VBA Excel 2007 to accept a Range for the merge. I ended-up with a Set r1=cells(a,b), r2 etc. then Set r1=nothing etc, after - on each loop, and used Range(r1,r2) to "Select" cells for colo(u)ring. Cell dimensions were about 8 by 15 - seemed to produce a square of sorts, but the Photoshop thingy made the squareness irrelevant.
