matching labels of secondary with primary axis

    Hi all,

I have 2 series of data, one large one with presumably all possible labels, a second (smaller) one with a subset of these labels. So far, I've put the first series on the primary axis, the smaller series on the secondary axis. The problem is that this secondary data is clustered to the left of the chart. I want to plot the values of this second (smaller) series on the corresponding labels of the first series.
To make it a little more complicated, it is possible that there are labels of the second series that don't appear in the larger dataset. These should be included in the label exis as well, if this is the case ...

    Does this make any sense?

Can this be done in a more or less automated way, or should I manipulate the data manually before even thinking about creating a chart?

The goal is to compare 2 techniques which 'retrieve' the different labels (to be a little less abstract, it deals with species names) and even with a different abundance. I want to depict these differences.

    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards.

edit: I work in Excel 2007, but if there are easier solutions in 2003/2010, I can use these as well

An example workbook would help it make even more sense.

You will need to use a single set of text of the axis labels. This list will need to include names from both techniques in order for the 2 data series to align.

A pivot chart maybe the best approach if you want to compare.

    Hi Andy,

I encountered some problems but then I found out that Excel isn't very forgiving in having spaces behind a name (label) ...

So, everything works. Thanks for the advise!
