Is it possible to mix chart types?

I’d like to create a chart that includes both lines and bars.

    For example:

I can calculate my retirement income based on date of retirement. Each year my pension and social security would go up based on the delayed retirement date. I’d like to display these point on the chart as vertical bars.

I can also calculate how much income I need today and adjust that by a fixed 3% inflation rate. I’d like to display that as a line that runs across the bars.

When a bar crosses through the line, that is a date I can retire.

If your chart has two lines, right click on one of them and select 'Change Series Chart Type'
    Good luck!

    Hi PapaGeek,

of course you can mix chart types in Excel. Common combinations are: columns and lines, areas and lines or any kind of chart with XY scatter points.
Here you find plenty of examples: http://www.pimpmychart.com/english/download.

Re: Is it possible to mix chart types?

Thanks Pimpmychart for sharing the link its indeed very informative...
However, without sounding to hijack this thread, if I may ask , how does one get an accurate idea of going only with a particular chart-type and not the other..?

If you have some more valuable inputs, can you please share the same:
like he way you have mentioned for the below:

Rule 2: Select an appropriate chart type..?

WHat I mean is that how do we decide on the most appropriate Chart which not only depicts the actual changes but also is more professional and yet to easy to figure out..?

Examples: of data of going with different charts and then understanding which serves the best?

    Warm Regards

    e4excel,

Your post does not comply with Rule 2 of our Forum RULES. Don't post a question in the thread of another member -- start your own thread. If you feel it's particularly relevant, provide a link to the other thread. It makes sense to have a new thread for your question because a thread with numerous replies can be off putting & difficult to pick out relevant replies.

    Dear ConneXionLost,

With due respect to the Forum Rules,

I did mention that I was not trying to hijacjk the thread, this would not have helped just me but everyone and since this was something to do with mixing charts.
I thought this would be not so in-appropriate to ask in the same thread as it was merely an extension to the OP's original question.

I did not ask for something which was for a personalised sheet and therefore I honestly thought that this would not be treated as Hijacking ..
The answer which I was looking out for would have anyways helped millions of users and it was more in terms of subjective knowledge and not a tailor-made solution for me only but in the broader sense to have more clarity in understanding Charts though everyones uses them invariably..

I rest my case, just felt like expressing myself but please dont feel that I am against any rules..

    Warm Regards

Re: Is it possible to mix chart types?

    No Issues ConneXionLost,

Agreed..! That this could have diverted the query somewhat but believe me I had good intentions..

Anyways, I was not contesting the Infraction at all..

I will definitely be more prudent...

Will start a new thread on the same..

    Warm Regards
