    Time line chart

I am trying to make a chart in excel that specifies a production job and how long it takes to do the job (time started, time finished) with multiple jobs in one day. I cannot seem to find a chart that I can enter this data and produce my desired result. I have made a crude example of how I would like this chart to look below.
The X axis reprsents duration of the work in hours (military starting at 08:00) and the Y Axis represents each job. There will be overlaping of time because the jobs are done by more than one person. Is there a way to chart this information in excel? In preveiwing this post it does not show my crude chart as I need it to look. The jobs need to show on the Y axis as starting at one point and ending at the other. I also tried to attach a power point file but this website will not allow me to. I could sent an email to a forum member to further exemplify what I am trying to acheive. Please help if possible.

    Re: Time line chart

I create Gantt-like charts, but they don't use excel's charting feature, they are simply spreadsheets that use conditional formatting to fill blocks representing, in this case, hours. So you input the start time and either the duration or end time and it fills the appropriate cells with color to create bars (instead of your dashes). If this is something that would work for you, I can provide more guidance or an example.

I believe that may be helpful. Can you show me an example?

Sorry this took so long; have been very busy. Here's a basic version of what I was describing.

    Re: Time line chart

Gantt charts are a thoroughly developed display type.

The basic process is having a stacked column chart w/ two dependent arrays and setting the first column to transparent fill.

    EDIT:
Actually, you might want to check Andy Pope's guide to Floating Bar Cluster charts, that might also be good for your needs.
