Chart with Arrow

I would do it by moving the arrow shape manually to the bar with highest value...

I don't think there is any way where a object is moved on chart surface ...

A bit of trickery could be used. Format Chart and Plot areas with 'No Fill' so that the sheet is visible behind the chart. Have a row of cells at top of Plot area with formulas that would show an arrow (using Wingding format) if a corresponding value was the maximum.

You don't need an object.

I've created an additional data series that is of the chart type XY chart. The X value is calculated from the position of the maximum value in the source data table. The Y value is the maximum of the source table, with a fixed number added to create an offset.

Add that to the chart as a new series, format as XY chart. Format the data marker of that series to be the square without marker lines, ramp up the size and use a picture fill.

Done.

I thought so that we can have something behind or may be on top of the chart which we can control using formula references ... but what if someones moves the chart to up /down / right / left ; and also we need to match up vertically with max column... but this is the only way which I can think of right now Cheers

Another option could be to create a cell chart where we can use hypen(-) in bold or other rectangle /square characters to show up like a column / bar chart with the help of REPT function.

I thought grid lines served the purpose. Anyway, here is what I was talking about. And yes, moving the chart would be a problem so one would have to decide on where chart would be and stick with it.

Here is another way to do it with a stacked column chart, i.e. not involving a XY chart at all. I've used two data series to highlight the maximum and the minimum value. Add these to the stacked column chart. Format the series with a picture fill.

This version also highlights min and max if there are duplicate values of either.

I'm trying to understand how the image created arrow-shaped.

how you did it?

I downloaded an image of an arrow from the interweb.

Then I went into the formatting dialog for the data series and on the Marker Fill (XY chart) or Fill (Stacked column chart) selected "Picture or texture fill" then the "File" button and browsed to the saved arrow image.

I got to get the picture, but as you did to make a series Edit cell to "Y" axis and another cell to "X" axis?

If you use the XY chart for the arrow, select the X value, copy it. Then select the chart and use Paste Special > Add as new series. Select the new series in the chart, right-click and select "Change the series chart type" and choose XY Scatter. Then edit the chart source data and re-define the series values to the cells for X and Y.

Actually, the stacked column chart approach is a lot easier to maintain. Have another look at my second file attachment.
