newbie question...lines aren't plotted correctly on chart

I am setting up a chart with two lines and plot points arranged by date. all seems to go well...except.....when you look at the plots the lines with the higher numbers is plotted below the line with lower numbers.....and there seems to be no relationship between the actual numbers (which do show up when you scroll over the plot point) and the numbers displayed on the Y axis. (using Excel 2003)

any help would be great...thanks

Hard to say without seeing the file. Maybe wrong chart type? Stacked lines rather than a regular line chart?
