    Pie Chart with Subcategories?

I'm trying to make a pie chart with categories and subcategories. I want each category to have a common color, with its subsidiary subcategories having shades of that color.

In more concrete terms, I want it to be something like this:

    DOGS (Category):
    Labrador (Subcategory)
    German Sheppard (Subcategory)
    Cocker Spaniel (Subcategory)
    Chiuaua (Subcategory)
    Pug (Subcategory)

    CATS (Category):
    Persian (Subcategory)
    Mainecoon (Subcategory)
    Himalayan (Subcategory)

All subcategories of Dog would be a shade of red and all subcategories of Cat would be a shade of blue.
    How would I do this?

    Re: Pie Chart with Subcategories?

    I basically have two responses:

    1) I don't think you can do this.

    2) Even if it's possible, you shouldn't do this.
Because, even though there are cases where pie charts are better than doing nothing, usually it's easier to understand a raw table of data than it is to decode a pie chart. Build a stacked column chart or something, it would be better.

But yeah having said that, create a pie chart with all of the "Subcategories" as the elements of the chart, so it's just one series instead of two, and then manually change their colors to match the "category" scheme you have going on.
