Format individual axis category labels on chart

    Hi
I want to format individual category labels on the y axis of a bar chart. Is there any way of doing this? Thanks

You can not format individual axis labels. So depending upon what the individual formatting is you can either use a dummy series' data labels or textboxes, although textboxes will not update with chart changes.

Re: Format individual axis category labels on chart

    Hi Andy
Thanks, I was looking at your "Conditionally highlight axis labels" example, which is great. The only problem is that my y axis category labels are survey questions (60 of them and quite long!) and as far as I can see I would have to move and align each individual label. There doesn't seem to be a way of selecting all and aligning?
    Thx Emma

It's not clear what you mean by align.

You can get all the data labels in a series to be positioned to the left or right of the data point.

If by alignment you mean text aligment within the label then that is limited and you may have to consider textboxes.

60 category items on the axis is quite a lot.

I mean align all the data labels in a series - on the y axis I only get options to position data labels as: center, inside end, inside base and outside end?
    Thanks.

You would need to use additional data series that was not a stacked bar chart. Then the alignment would allow better control.

Use this free addin to link data labels to cells

Ah yes, already use that, but had missed the "move" option! Only problem now is not being able to change the data label box size so that the labels don't wrap...don't think that's possible, so looks like my only option is text boxes - life's probably too short!
    Thanks for your help

You can not size data labels. If alignment is important then the textbox link is the only alternative to using cells and trying to align the chart.
