Can I get the source table if I click on Excel chart ?

    Hi all,

I would like to see the source table based on which the excel chart is created if I click on that chart.
Is there any way to do it ?

In case of PivotTables, if I click on the pivottable, it shows the source table/range etc.
I want to have the smae functionlity but for charts.

Any help on this is highly appreciated.

    Thanks !
    PAM

If the data is a simple rectangular range in the worksheet that the chart is embedded in, selecting the chart will highlight this range. Clicking Select Data on the Chart Tools > Design tab will show the address of a simple rectangular range whatever sheet it's on.

For more complicated ranges, if you select one series, Excel will highlight the data used in the series if it's in the active sheet. In the Select Data dialog, clicking on the series and clicking Edit will show you the data used by the series.

Thanks. I am looking at more user-friendly manner because I need to put it in dashboard.
If one clicks on Pivot table, the source data is shown in new worksheet.
The similar mechanism if can be possible with charts ? If one clicks on the chart, the control will go to source data or source data will be shown in new sheet. ..somthing on these lines, I am looking for. Any ideas?

You could write some code that would respond to events such as clicking on the chart. I wrote an introduction to chart events some time ago:
