Custom date format: How to show the months as just their first letter?

Morning all,

I've got a chart that shows the months in the format Jan, Feb, Mar etc on the x axis but i'd prefer it to be just the first letter for each of them. Is there a custom format I can use to achieve this?

Can't think of a custom format, but can't you include the month in this format in yoiur source data?
You can use a formula to translate a date to the first letter of the month. If your date columns start in A1, then :

Cheers Dominicb, I thought building it into the source data would be the answer but I just wondered whether it was possible via formatting? I had a nagging feeling that i'd seen it done before? Obviously not.

Sorry JospehP, your suggestion works for dates in the format xx/xx/xxxx but my data pulls it in like Jan, Feb and Mar so it doesn't work. A very good tip for future reference though which i'll definitely be making use of going forward.
