Reference a table and assign

Hi all,
I am familiar with the basics of Excel, but need help with the following scenario.
1) I am averaging a total percentage of a few cells
2) I then need to look up the average in a specific table on another worksheet in the same workbook
3) Based on the range in the table that the average number falls into, a certain amount of points will be assigned
So the table I am referencing has Points in the first column, Min # in the second column and Max # in the third
I have no clue where to go from here. Which steps have to be completed before inputting a formula?
