Question Multiple-level category label in chart - remove inner category but keep vertical outer cat

    Hello,

I'm plotting a chart with weekly resolution data. I have years in an outer-category and weeks in an inner-category. I have made my standard multiple-level category plot, which works fine as always.

My problem is that I do not want to show the inner-category (weeks), but I want to keep the outer-category (years) shown as in the multiple-level category plot. That is, I want to keep it horizontal and separated with a line.

Further puzzling is it, that if I remove the weeks from the axis label, my axis ends up all vertical. That is the year, for instance 2002, is vertical and not horizontal. And I can't change it on the alignment tab!!!

I have attached the excel workbook with the data and the chart.

    Thanks for any help!

If you replace week number with space you can have year only multi-level category.
In the example I used 2 extra columns for the category labels, shaded yellow.

If you use just Years you can set the alignment angle to -1 or 1 in order to get them almost horizontal. There are just too many category labels and excel is defaulting to a vertical layout in order to display them.

    Thanks a bunch, Andy!

I found the -1, +1 degree fix earlier on, but I like the solution with the spaces much better.

I would have preferred it if Office had a better representation possibility for this, but that's the way sometimes....

    Once again, thanks!
