Pivot Chart Switch Row/Column Greyed Out--Need time on x-axis

    Hi,

I have the following data organized by account type in column A and account balances in dollar values per month in columns B-Z. I want to use a pivot table/pivot chart to show what has happened to the accounts via line graph over time. My column headers are January through December with the $ values below. When I create a pivot chart, it creates a table with account types listed on the x-axis and $ value on the y-axis. What I want is the headers January--December on the x-axis, dollar values on the y-axis, and the account types to be graphed as lines.

I can achieve this by doing a chart by switching the row/column feature on a regular chart, but I would prefer a pivot chart because I want to look at the data from multiple angles. I've tried a variety of things, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I consider myself an expert in excel and can say I'm thoroughly stumped by what is probably a simple task.

Not sure whether you are xl2003 or xl2007, file type and your stated Off version clash.

Put Accounts in the column Field and month names in the Data field.

For xl2007 simply swap Month into Column Labels and (SUM)Values in to row Labels.
    Cheers

    Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm using xl2007. I've posted a simplified version (CompanyX_1) of what I'm trying to do. I'm still having the same issue of the pivot chart not being able to put the months on the x-axis. I was able to get the exact chart I wanted by creating a chart, but again, it's not as dynamic as a pivot chart. I tried your solution and was not able to get time on the x-axis. Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Wow, that was a let down. Quick to ask question and demand answer, but won't share the solution when you get it. I even signed up to the forum just to be able to open the files.....
