"This field has more than 10,000 items under one or more parent items."

I've searched this forum high & low and can't find a reasonable answer for this, and the Goog doesn't help me either. I can't possibly be the first one asking about this though, just exhausted my resources or I'm not asking the right question or search criteria...

So here it is, in my pivot table I cannot get my "Item List" to go past 10,000 items shown. How can I change this? The error message is simple "this field has more than 10,000 items under one or more parent items."

Redundant to that, seemingly anyway, is the ability to use the search box in that item list, HOWEVER, I cannot save more than just the item I'm searching for by checking that specific box. So every time I search for a specific item, I then 'check it', then it proceeds to kill all the previously checked items I needed for my table...

Somebody help me out? I feel, and hope, this is an easy fix that I'm simply missing. Or in my "upgrade" to office 2010 did I lose the ability to have a long list??

Any help is more than appreciated! Thanks for even reading my issue.

you never had the ability to have more than 10000 items in that list so I'm not clear what you think you lost?

actually - are you talking about an OLAP pivot?

    Online analytical, yes.

My last Excel (07) allowed me to have all my items under the parent of, in this case "Company Names" shown in the list - which would be over 10,000. In this case, that is no longer a foreseeable option. It's really my main asset in the table. So I'm working with Company Name, revenue, date range, and Order # - but Company Name being the root to all the other branches.

    Does that make sense?

yeah-just done a quick test using powerpivot and it seems to be a change in 2010. if you type a value in and use the 'add selection to filter' checkbox it oughta work ok or you can use a slicer?

Joe, that idea is sort of the problem in itself. If I type in exactly the customer I'm looking for and Check that box, it kills all the other customers I had in that table. It's like bent on not letting me win either way. I'm not familiar with using a slicer, I'll have to look that up.

Not sure why all this was okay in Excel 2007, but now a nightmare in 2010.

Thanks for the help though, I do appreciate it.
