Question Pivot Table to display 'real' data not count - Help Please

    Hi All,

I have a challenge with the data that I wish to display in a pivot table. I've searched hard and can see that it may not be possible but worth a try anyway.

Basically I want to display a list of jobs that each project manager has to complete within a specific month based on a set of data, but I keep getting a 'count' of the jobs in each month - I want to display the job name itself.

See the sample file for more detail. Essentially I have as raw data:

    JOB PM DATE
    JOB1 PM1 11/11/2012
    JOB2 PM2 11/11/2012
    JOB3 PM1 12/12/2012
    JOB4 PM2 12/12/2012
    JOB5 PM1 01/01/2013
    JOB6 PM2 01/01/2013

And I want to display it like below:

    NOV DEC JAN
    PM
    PM1 JOB1 JOB3 JOB5
    PM2 JOB2 JOB4 JOB6

There is will be differing job numbers per month depending on when the jobs will be scheduled to finish.

However the Pivot Table gives me:

    NOV DEC DEC
    PM
    PM1
    JOB1 1
    JOB3 1
    JOB5 1
    PM2
    JOB2 1
    JOB4 1
    JOB6 1

Can anyone help me and suggest what to do? My thoughts were to write some sort of if formula which checked if there was a 1 in the cells below the months and then grabbed the JOB name if that was the case.

Alternatively I could write a complicated Macro, but I would like to try with PivotTables (If possible... ) first.

Thanks in advance, I'm not new to excel, but very new to pivot tables.

You can not place text in the value area of a pivot table.

If your example data was actually like your real data then you could fake it with a custom number format. But I doubt your Jobs are actual called JOB1, JOB2 etc.
