Grouping Months with Access Connected Pivot Table

    Hello Everyone,

I know there are multiple threads on the specifics of how to group for months on pivot tables. But, I haven't found an answer for my specific issue yet. Excel isn't allowing me to group by month on a pivot chart I have that is connected to an Access database. The specific columns that have dates are formatted in the Access file to be in MM/DD/YYYY. There are also no blanks in the database. I have seen posts on this topic in other forums, but have not found an answer. If anyone could help me out or guide me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance!

Could it be that for one reason or another the dates are strings looking like dates, not real dates? ( can be checked with the istext function)

It doesn't appear to be the case. in access when you change the formatting of the column to display in "date/time" and the format of that to be "short date" it converts the entire column to match. and in excel if i take the contents of the pivot table and paste them into a separate table, they group perfectly. maybe i'm missing something, or my assumption is inaccurate.
