Adding an Average on Pivot Table Data Chart

I've created a Pivot Table and Pivot Table chart that tracks data throughout the month. This chart also has a data table for easier reference. However, I need to add an Average of those data points to the data table and the chart. Can this be done in a Pivot Table while keeping my current data?

A couple of different ways to do this.

    - Put the value you need averaged into the 'Values' section of the 'Pivot Table Field List' then set the 'Value Field Settings' to 'Average' or,

you can add a claculated field via the PivotTable Tools tab, Options, Tools, Formulas, Calculated Field...

Can you attach a sample of the pivot?

Re: Adding an Average on Pivot Table Data Chart

I do not know if you can calc the average within your pivot table in its current layout. I've never seen it done with daily data in this pivot format.

So, rather than run a formula against the pivot table to derive the average, I added a new pivot table with the months 'Grouped' so you get the average for each month as the days pass.

    Hope this helps...

Re: Adding an Average on Pivot Table Data Chart

    Steve,

Thanks for the help. On a different tab in my workbook, I've got a pivot table with the monthly averages and a chart showcasing that data, it's just the owner of that data wants to have the averages shown in the monthly chart as well. What I did yesterday was to copy and modify the monthly averages chart and paste it to the current monthly data chart.
I appreciate all the help! And now I know about calculated fields within a Pivot Table!
