Combining sets of data into a pie chart

I'm probably an idiot for not knowing how to do this, the answer is probably very simple.

Okay, say you have your data for a pie chart arranged like this:

    A 5
    C 7
    A 3
    B 3
    B 5
    C 7
    A 3
    C 3
    C 6
    A 7
    B 2
    B 5

How can you make that into a pie chart that displays three pieces, one for A, one for B, and one for C, with their percentages based on the total from the second column? For instance, in this example, if you add up all the As, you get 18, Bs you get 15, and Cs you get 23, so therefore the chart will be based on a total of 56, with 32% A, 27% B, and 41% C. When I try to make a chart with just these two columns, what I get is an individual "piece of pie" for each entry. So there are 4 pieces of A, 4 pieces of B, and 4 pieces of C. I need to combine these 12 data entries into a three piece pie chart. Like I said, I'm probably just doing something wrong, but any help is appreciated. My actual data has well over a hundred entries so my pie chart looks ridiculous right now, with over a hundred little tiny pieces, and there should only be 7 or 8 pieces.

Re: Combining sets of data into a pie chart

I figured it out- I have to create a separate list of data by using the SUMIF function. In this case, assuming that The categories are column A and the series is column B, starting at row 1, I would use the function =SUMIF(A1:A12,"A",B1:B12) to total up A only, and the same thing for B and C just changing the "A" to "B" and "C". This will create a separate table from the data with the totals I need to make a proper pie chart.
