    Chart Data Label Position

I have a chart and would like to position data labels at the top of my stacked bar chart for an line chart value.

On the graphs sheet of the file attached, the top graph shows value # def as a line chart but the bottom chart shows what I am trying to do, which is show the data labels and have no line for the # def legend.

I can manage that with the data labels within the bar chart and I have coloured them white.

What I would like to do is have these values outside the chart area, at the top of each stacked bar. I see you can insert a text box but I didn't know how I could assign a cell value to the text box.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Lady_Shaz,

To make the # def data appear higher in the chart, you can reformat the secondary axis by checking the box for the Logarithmic scale (base 10) and setting the Display units at "None".

The second chart in the attached file shows the affect. Since the numbers aren't "outside the chart area" I added diamond shaped markers with the data labels to differentiate the # def numbers from the other data sets.

To put the values into a text box, create the text box and with the text box selected, enter the formula referencing your desired cell. Example: =State!H8 will put 1,944 into the text box. The third chart in the sample shows an example (these objects are all grouped so they move together).

Hope this is something you can use?

Thanks Steve, I like the 2nd option as it would be a lot quicker but unfortunately it moves the # abc axis up as well so I have gone with your 3rd option of text boxes which works well but is fiddly.
    Appreciate your help.

You could ovelay a separate chart to get the 'log scale' affect without moving the abc data up.

Here's a sample of two charts overlayed. Better?

Thanks Steve but I was having troubles with the overlay and as I have created all the text boxes referring to the cell values, I shall stick with that solution.

    Re: Chart Data Label Position

Why not simply use the #Def values as the secondary axis labels?
