Showing Average and other Metrics in a Pivot Table?

    Hi,

Is it possible to show averages and other metrics like max/min/percentile in a pivot table?

I've attached the file I am working on with the two tabs - pivot table and raw data.

I have calculated the time it took to fill a position (column D minus column C). I want to create a summary table (I figured it would be a pivot table) that would break down by department (I was able to do that) and by whether it was filled internally or externally (I was able to do that) and by month (I was not able to do that). What i want to show in the pivot table columns though are the metrics: average, max, min. of that G column: TOF Closed to filled.

    Hi!

Thank you very much for this. I see how you just dragged the TOF field into the value setting and picked average min/max.

I'd like to know how you were able to A. Group the dates into the months. B. A lot of the negative values in the table are due to data entry errors and due to blanks. Is there a way to only select non negative numbers in the calculations?

Hi the group was easy, you just right click on one of the dates and click group. You get a popup that will give several options for how you can group the dates. For the negative numbers, my gut would say, fix the underlying data. but short of that you can add the TOF to the filer box and then click the drop down up in B1 check the select multiple items box and then un-check the negative numbers.

Most of the negatives are because the position is not filled. Excel is identifying the date as "0", and is thus saying it's from an earlier date. I see that you tried to fix that by using =IFERROR(D2-C2,"").

Might I recommend that you try =IF(OR(D2="",C2=""),"",D2-C2,) and then drag it down. This will make all unfilled positions blank also. In the PivotTable, you can easily filter out any of those dates, then.

Great suggestion jkray622! I was just trying to hide the errors and was not thinking about why they were errors...
