    scatterplot

    Hi everyone,

So I have to do a scatterplot. The x axis shows the date (month/day) and the y axis shows the time (hours and minutes). Now I am using mac excel 2011. So on the y-axis where the time is, I want to make the time range from 8:00am to 3:30pm. Now i have managed to figure out the exact time value for 8:00am and 3:30pm. But on the y-axis the values range from 8:00 to 3:12. What should I do to change this- should I do something to the major unit- it is 0.05 or the minor unit- it is 0.01? I have attached the file to this message.

    Thanks.

    Re: scatterplot

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Here's how I figured it out. I copy and pasted your the values for 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM to other cells. The results were:

    8:00 AM = 0.333333333333333
    8:30 AM = 0.354166666666667
    3:30 PM = 0.645833333333333

In the chart properties, the fixed minimum was therefore 0.354166666666667, the fixed maximum was 0.645833333333333 and the major unit was the difference between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM (in other words a half of an hour) which was 0.0208333333333334.

Put that all in your chart and it should give you what you are after.

    Good luck.

    Re: scatterplot

@abousetta Instead of making it every 30 minutes, is it possible to do every 5 minutes- like 8:00am, 8:05am? I tried doing it but it won't work. Am I doing something wrong?

    Re: scatterplot

5 minutes is equal to 0.00347222222222227
10 minutes is equal to 0.00694444444444454

I put the value for 10 min for the major grid lines and 5 min for the minor grid lines, and then added minor grid lines to the chart. That way the numbers on the y axis don't overlap but you can clearly still see 5 minute intervals.

    Hope this helps.
