Question Pivot Table - Search Values from another sheet... possible ?

    Hi all
bit of a long shot this....
we use a pivot table to show the location of stock (Code & Qty) and need to search the pivot frequently to enable the forklift drivers to pick the stock for transfer to the main warehouse.
we have now been given the task of deciding what needs sending.
is there any way of transferring the results straight into the search of the pivot table ?
or is there an easier way of doing it ?
    thanks

If noone else has any ideas ...it sounds like you're trying to use Excel as a database. I say try MS Access. From there you can add your stock information (like warehouse name, bin\bulk location, item number, item description, item qty, etc.) to a table and use simple queries to find items and adjust stock levels. With a little work you could split the database and make it available to a small number of concurrent users.

    Hi,

It sounds like you need to add some filters to your pivot table. It is all a lot easier using 2010 or 2013 than in 2003 version.

See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...010167795.aspx or search for Pivot Slicers.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

using a database would be easier i quite agree, but i have no say in that.
just have to use what i am given (no access license either).
i can pull the raw data from the stock spreadsheet into another one (linked) with no problem but i can't work out how to show the individual locations for multiple products without using a pivot table.

Here it is. One of the post has a macro here it looks up a country and then returns all of the cities. You could change country to your item and cities to your locations. That way when you type in the item it shows you all of the locations. I didn't write it so may need to get some help in the macro section of the forum.
