    Powerpivot import error

    Hi,

I am trying to import data with powerpivot.

But suddenly, I always recieve an error
"The operation has been cancelled because there is not enough memory available for the application. If using a 32-bit version of the product, consider upgrading to the 64-bit version or increasing the amount of memory available on the machine.''

What can I do and what should I do?

I am using 32bit of excel. I have heard if I use 64bit I will receive other problems.
What is the pros and cons of using 64 instead of 32?
Can I fix my current error?

    I am using windows 7.
    I have 8gb memory

55MB is not very big-what other applications are you running and how much free memory do you have?

    RAM 8,0GB (7,88 usable)

    Operating system W7 64bit, service pack 1
    processor: Core i3-2120 3,3GHz
But I believe I am running 32bit version of office (I am not sure)
Free disk space 390gb of 450gb.

It doesn't matter whether I run other programs like Lotus Notes or quit all other programs.
I don't use msn, I sometimes use skype.

I was asking how much free memory you have not how much in total

have you applied any office or windows updates shortly before the problem started?

    Re: Powerpivot import error

that memory usage looks high for the amount of data you described-do you have a lot of distinct values in the columns? (good article on powerpivot memory usage here http://sqlblog.com/blogs/marco_russo...for-excel.aspx)

64bit office is mainly an issue if you use add-ins in any of the office applications or use non-msforms activex controls such as the windows common controls -see

    and

    Re: Powerpivot import error

Thankyou Joseph and again thankyou for your patience.

I have two data files one from 2011 other from 2012, with same item number, names etc. But different sales amount, different outstanding claims.

Sometimes the obvious thing is not so obvious. I skip some columns and bingo, 3 million rows were successfully transferred.

    Again, thankyou.
