    Statistics about dates

I have 500 dates (day/month/year) and would like to get a better statistics about it in a table (vertically years and horizontaly months). Etc i would like to get in a crossection of year 2006 and april how many times does april appear in year 2006 and like that for all months in all of the years of the 500 dates.
I think that can be done by using some of the commands from data base section but did not find the way to do it correctly. Any help from you would be nice. Thanks

    Hi,

A pivot table is probably the best option. See attached.

When you get a moment would you change the location in your profile to something more meaningful. This often helps those who are helping you.

That is exactly what i wanted to get. Thanks very much I am new to pivot tables so this question might be strange: Why I can not see connection between dates and number of date in certain years? Is it becauase I am using Excel 2003 and your file is made in newer version? Can you plase save it to version 2003? Thanks again

    Hi,

Try the attached I've added a second column since this seems to be the simplest way of replicating the 2007 pivot table version.

    OK,

    Glad to have helped.

Persevere with Pivot Tables. They are extremely powerful when it comes to summarising and analysing data, provided the data is captured in a neat two dimensional table of data where there are no repeating fields which contain the same types of value. The brilliant thing with them is that they only take seconds to create saving you much time in developing complex formulae with Excel's standard functions and macros. Admittedly they take a bit of getting used but an hour or two spent playing with them will save you hours in the future.
