trying to change the labels or names on horizontal axis

my simple chart shows a trend plotted by its performance each year. i haven't figured out how to put the year in place of the "1, 2, ...10" positions for each data round. when i introduce the year to the data, it's plotted as data, which distorts the meaningful data.
any advice would be helpful.
