Creating a pivot table and chart ..

I have two excel tables for "Monthly planned amounts", and "semi daily actually executed amounts" .. For comparison purposes, I need to generate a monthly report for "Monthly executed" from the daily table based on date field..
Then I need to compare the monthly "executed" to the monthly "planned" in a chart .. I heard it is possible to achieve this using pivot table/ charts .. I appreciate if somebody can provide assistance on the attached file .. I will also be learning from it!! thanks
