    Histograms

    Hi everyone,

I just started a new work and have to get used to excel instead of matlab, so I hope you can help me with a small problem. Is there an easy way to create a histogram from one column of data, making excel divide it into fx 10 equally spaced value intervals?

    Best Regards

    Lonnie

    Re: Histograms

    There's the histogram tool http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...785.aspx?CTT=1

You could also use the =FREQUENCY() function http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ma...711.aspx?CTT=1 to generate the data in the spreadsheet on which the histogram will be based, then plot the column chart based on that.

    Re: Histograms

I got the histogram function to work but my data frequency seem to be shifted to the right.

I have attached the intervals and frequency along with the first 20 or so data points - in increasing value.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Interval......Hyppighed..Data
    1.00E+05....0..............3.08E+05
    5.00E+05....1078.........3.11E+05
    1.00E+06....1242.........3.13E+05
    5.00E+06....974...........3.15E+05
    1.00E+07....41.............3.15E+05
    5.00E+07....13.............3.16E+05
    1.00E+08....0..............3.18E+05
    5.00E+08....2..............3.19E+05

Can you elaborate? What do you mean by "shifted to the right"?

Assuming the 3E5 values are examples of the central part of your distribution, the results given look correct. There are 0 values where xi<1E5, there are 1078 values where 1e5<xi<5e5, there are 1242 values where 5e5<xi<1e6, and so on.
