Dynamic Pie Chart w/ Drop Down Menu

    Hi Excel World,

I'm looking for a detailed tutorial on how to create dynamic pie charts with drop down menus filtering by month. The data I'm playing with is Page traffic by Geo location over the course of 2 years. I'm using Omniture report builder to populate the data, I now need to learn how to create these charts. I'm a pretty basic users with excel so this is something I'd need a lot of help with. The link below does a good job of explaining what I want, just not a good job and showing how to do it.

I've seen some past post on the topic, but it was never really explained, I don't want some1 to do it for me, I need to learn how to do it myself!!!

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

Hi Jon and welcome to the forum....can you upload a data set minus company confidential info....I might be faster to do it for you and then explain the back end of it....

Yes this is how the data comes to me from Omniture. I can structure it so that the dates and the Countries swap places if that helps. I think i should have exported it that way anyway.

actually I had in mind to create a pivot table but the data is already in a table format...if it was in a real pivot table then you could use the pivot table built-in filters to control your stuff...did your youtube video fix your issue?

Not really, attached is what I want to create. I just cant see how it was done. Any insight would be awesome.

I can see it was created with the =offset function for looking at the name manager, just not sure how it all comes together.

    Hi JonLombardi

The OFFSET function is returning a range of cells. See the link below.

    OFFSET Function

Once you have named the first named range "rngAxis". The formula for the second named range "rngData" can be shorten to: =OFFSET(rngAxis,,1) as you are offsetting one column to the right of the named range "rngAxis"

With the way you have the data setup I can't figure out a way....not that it can't be done....I just don't see it....but there are a lot of better people out there than me....The example you use won't work directly because the data is setup differently....that data set is sectioned, so to speak....if it was linearly or flat you could use a pivot table....maybe Kevin has a great idea....sorry I couldn't help....
