Plotting chart based on dates but extracting days of week only

I have dates in column A and profit/loss figures for each particular date in column B

I'd like to make a column chart that shows amount of profit above zero line and amount of loss below zero line but instead of having it tied to a specific date, I'd like Excel to determine what day of the week the given date was and plot the chart per day of week.
So effectively, I would have only 7 columns and all data in the range which fell on Monday for instance would be compounded into that Monday column (net profit/loss so if there were more profits across all Mondays the bar would be above zero and vice versa)

...suggestions?

yes I have that so far...
but how do I have the data "add up" all Mondays for instance. Right now it just bunches the profits/losses from all Mondays into Monday chart column (it's clear on scatter graph that this is what's happening) instead of summing all values into one chart column

Do I have to make a separate data range that would first extract all Mon,Tue,Wed... etc. references and add their respective values and then make a chart based on this new data range?
