data not matching in Pivot table

    Hello Dear Friends,

I need your help in solving a query of mine.

I have a master sheet which has names of four students.

when i use pivot table on it two things happen.

when i put both the columns of master in Row of pivot the total of timk doesnt matches with master. but when i put mark in values it gives the right total.

i want to know why this is happening.

is there any way by which total can be corrected in row label only in pivot.

friends please help me in solving this.

    Thanks alot in advance.

    Thanks
    Shane

You have your "marks" field in the wrong place in the pivot table. Select the pivot table. in the bottom right hand corner you will see the pivot table layout. click on "Marks" and drag it into the "values" section of the pivot table
My approach to providing help is to help you to help yourself. So my answers won't always solve your problem, but hopefully you can learn enough to solve the problem yourself and be more self sufficient for the experience.

    Hello Mallycat,

    Thanks for the reply.

Actually i have attached only a sample.. there are around 50 headers in my file like marks. the names of students are repeating 7 to 8 times. In case i drag each and every column to values then i have to make several pivot and that is my problem.

Re: data not matching in Pivot table

    Dear Cool Friend,
Using other words to what MallyCat said, Row Labels will not do any calculation for you. If you want your total to tally then it has to be under values.
Now coming to your problem did you try placing the other headers in Row Label or report filter keeping sum of marks in value field. This should address your problem. If not, then please upload a sample data sheet with all the columns and few sample rows of data.
    Best Regards/VKS
