Pivot - drag fields into Values area always comes out as "Count of", instead of "Sum of"

    Hi Guys,

Not sure if I was descriptive enough regarding my problem but has anyone encounter this problem where you drag one of the fields and put into the Values, it always return as "Count of", instead of "Sum of"

How can we change it to "Sum of" by default everytime we drag a data fields into Values Field List?
I got 20-30 months of data need to plot into that field list, but have to manually change to "Sum of"..... that's pretty much manual

I'm using excel 2010, the old version do not have such problem (although once a while it appears the same...)

I've attached the snapshot for clearer view

    Thanks

    Regards

I believe the columns which you add in the data field will be having any text cell in between the data. Even a single cell in those columns have any text data then by default pivot assign in as count. If that column data is true numbers then pivot will treat it as sum.

Anyhow make use of PivotPower addin which you can download it from here

    Here it described briefly...

you cannot change the defaults-as sixthsense said if you have a text (or blank) cell in the data the pivot will use count rather than sum. I don't see how powerpivot will make this easier for you

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to

    @ JosephP,

Small correction, it is not Power Pivot it is Pivot Power

I am using pivot power for more than years and it is a hectic job when there is 20 to 30 number of fields in Data Area as Count. But by doing single click in power pivot we can covert all to Sum/Average/Count etc.,

It is a very useful addin to work with Pivot Table.

Pivot Power & Pivot Play both are nice for PT.
