Bar graphs that change colour based on cell values

    budget actual
    hardware 2 1
    software 3 3
    implement 2 4
    amc 3 2

HELP needed to show bars in :
green = when actual value < budget value
yellow=when actual value = budget value
red = when actual value > budget value

the bars should also grow or shrink along with the
    budget and actual values.

    Hello,

You need a helper table with three columns: less | equal | greater

The rows will be Hardware, Software, Implement, AMC.

Use formulas to calculate if each row item is "less", or "equal" or "greater".

Then create a chart off that helper table.

You can find examples of that technique if you search for "conditional chart formatting". One of the results will be http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/format.html

Take a look. Take some time to get familiar with the concept.

It is NOT the actual number value that governs the colour. Instead, based on the number value, the value will be used in a specific series, and the series has a specific colour.

That is what you need to understand to apply conditional chart formatting to your scenario.

    cheers, teylyn
