    Charting root console output

    Hi all,

I am trying to chart the below data captured from a console but I tried several different row formats and cant seem to get this into a chart, any ideas would be helpful

Filesystem: Size Used Avail Use% Mounted On
    sda1 99mb 31mb 63mb 34% /boot
    sda2 2gb 36mb 1.9gb 2% /tmp
    sda5 1.1tb 779gb 243gb 77% /
    tmpfs 12g 0% 12gb 0% /dev/shm

    /dev/mapper/mpath4p1 2.7tb 2.1tb 506gb 81% /mnt/das
    /dev/mapper/mpath5p1 1.4 tb 798gb 506gb 62% /mnt/das

    Hi rkphil2000,

    Welcome to the forums.

What are you trying to show?

    Total Amounts
    Amounts used vs Total Amount
    % used

It can be graphed in many ways. First I would recommend creating a formula that converts it all to the same amount if you are trying to use the Amounts/Avail. If you are using the percentage, no need to convert the values as a percentage is a percentage is a percentage.

    Hey Steve thanks for responding.

I'm wanting to show the usage of SDA1, 2 and 5 i.e the Size/Used/Avail etc. nothing complicated just bar graphs would work..

every time I highlight/and pick a chart im not getting the data correctly. I tried aligning the sda1/2/5 on the left column then across the top but cant seem to get the data into a chart.

In the screenshot it looks like I only selected the Mounted column but I selected everything prior.. tried selected all from left to right.right to left then when I look at the chart it acts like I only selected 1 row. odd

    Hi Rkphil2000,

I think your chart problem is that you have no data (i.e. numbers) in your chart. It appears that you only have text so Excel is trying to format it and pushes it to the bottom row thinking they are all labels/categories.

Here is my representation of your chart. You have one other problem that is hard to deal with and that is the fact that your first 2 points are Small and your third is large (megabytes vs gigabytes). So I moved the terabyte drive to the second axis.

Here it is. Let me know what you think: Data Usage 2 Axis Separated.xls

hmm ok, your chart looks good. didn't realize it was going to be that complicated. I may rethink this a bit. thanks

Glad you like the chart. Your biggest issue is that your data is very very far apart. A megabyte is very small compared to a terabyte. Hopefully it will help you find what you need.
