Creating a graph in excel with a .res file

I am trying to create a graph by importing a .res file. I am using a software called Rarefaction to compile data, and it outputs my data into an .res file. This website, http://strata.uga.edu/software/anRareReadme.html, says that "Although Analytic Rarefaction does not plot the results, the file rarefaction.res can be read into any graphing program such as Excel, Deltagraph, or Kaleidagraph." I have not been able to find how to actually do it. Any help would be much appreciated

Re: Creating a graph in excel with a .res file

    1. NOTE for Windows/DOS users: the results will be saved in a file named rareres.txt.

    2. ERROR - could not locate the data file 'rarefact.txt'

Same as previous message, except on Windows/DOS systems. Their are two likely causes of this message:
    (1) the rarefact.txt file is not in the same folder or directory as the rarefaction program, and
    (2) the rarefact.txt file was actually saved under a different name. In the first case, verify that the data file and the program are indeed in the same directory or folder. In the second case, verify that the data file is truly named "rarefact.txt".
    3. Data > From Text > Look in: C:\ your path etc\rareres.txt.

Thank you for your response and your clarification on finding the output file I have the file located, I just don't think I am understanding how to use my data to create a graph in Excel. Do you know if one can import an .res file into Excel to create a graph or not?

Go to File > Open, change the file type from Excel Workbooks to All Files. Find the file. If it is in fact a text file, Excel will recognize this and start the text import wizard, which helps you import the data in a useful layout.

Sometimes the answer is simply, "try it and see".
