Excel PivotChart, values don't respect filters?

I'm sure this is basic but Googling and searching here didn't yield results that worked for me.

I want to show the sum of a column called "Diff" which is a calculation between the its time and the time of the row above it. We're talking minutes here. There's a value that is a negative. In manual filtering, I take it out, great. But I want the chart to show the sum of these Diff's but despite manually filtering the bad value, it blows out the other values by showing this negative value.

An attempt to make a value filter is thrown the error that it only acts on Values. When the Diff field is in the values list, the manual filter does not appear.

How should I show the sum of this column without this bad value? In Pivot Table options I have the "Allow Multiple Filters" set to true.

It appears the filters are good for filtering out bad data before the Sum action is done, but the Values filters only act on the Sum values are generated? My ignorance is showing here, thanx, sam

Re: Excel PivotChart, values don't respect filters?

Yes, happily. This is a subset of the data with static values. If you look carefully, the chart is blown out because one value of time has a large negative value. I have set up manual filtering to leave out the negative values but when the Diff is brought into the Values area and set to SUM it ignores my manual filters. Efforts to filter this fail because the Diff column is in the Values area.

Ultimately, because the data set is very large with other values, I would like to dynamically "pre-filter" these so that I can only show a chart of Diff values greater than an arbitrary amount. But first, I have to understand why I'm unable to filter out bad values, thanx, sam
