Pivot table is not pulling values from source worksheet

I need help, help, help. I am having an issue where I created a pivot table from another worksheet. One of my fields is not carrying over from the original data set and is only showing zeroes. This issue is absolutely defeating the purpose of creating the pivot table in the first place. I run pivot tables all the time and have never had this issue before. Anybody ever heard of this?

Is it possible to attach a file that has all the company confidential info removed?

Re: Pivot table is not pulling values from source worksheet

I'm not sure if that would be a good idea for me to do that considering this is a commission file from my company. Let me see if I can give more detail on my issue. I do data analysis for a start up and one of my duties is to process the commission files from our suppliers. These files are somewhat complex and can be fairly large. I use pivot tables to simplify the spreadsheet of course. But I also use it to look for things that will potentially cause me problems when I'm uploading the file to our custom CRM.

So basically I created the file I needed, which was a compilation of several smaller files, and then I was going to run a pivot table to help eliminate some of the issues I know will occur when I upload the file to the CRM. The one of the columns on my source data sheet is titled. Some of the values in that column were not carrying over to the pivot table. They were showing up as 0's. That has never happened before and I was interested in finding out why. I searched the forum but couldn't come up with anything that I thought would be an applicable solution.

I don't the answer of the top of my head and without seeing the data (and I'm not suggesting you do anything against your company or forum policies) it's hard to find the problem...is it possible to change the names to protect the innocent and scale down the data set?....maybe some of the more brilliant minds on this site can help....

Let me try and black out the names and the meter numbers and then try to re-create the issue. If I can do that I'll attach it to this thread to see if anybody can help me out with it. I worked around it manually so it really isn't that critical but I'd like to know what caused it so that if it happens again I'll know how to fix it.

Re: Pivot table is not pulling values from source worksheet

i went ahead and deleted all of the confidential info. the PT is going to look weird b/c there isn't any customer info but you should be able to get and idea of the problem. there were a lot more 0's on my original spreadsheet but there are enough so you can see the issue. any help you can provide would be great. thanks.

Re: Pivot table is not pulling values from source worksheet

it would seem that some of your usage numbers aren't numbers....you'll see a small caret in the upper left corner....convert them to numbers by highlight all the ones that are bad and move your mouse next the cells on the left side and you'll see a small box...click on that and one of the choices is convert to number....refresh your PT and you should be good to go....

Re: Pivot table is not pulling values from source worksheet

Wow that's great! Worked like a charm. Thanks. I thought about that but when convert the usage amounts to numbers on the source data it changed the format to general and I need that string of data to be in the number format with 2 0's. For example 2525.00. Anyway. That worked so I appreciate it.
