Pivot table is sorting values with text first then dates?!?!?

Hi all,

I'm currently trying to get my pivot table to sort the main list of values in date order but in the list are also some text items, and i want the text items to apprear after the dates. When i click sort ascending (A to Z), the list currently displays text items first in alphabetical order, followed by the dates in ascending order. I thought this was supposed to be vice versa as standard?!?!? It's a standard ascending order sort (no custom sort options), and the dates are being recognised as dates (when i change the type of date format, the formatting of the dates adjusts in line), so i'm baffled. Is there anything i'm doing wrong, or anything i can do to correct this, aside from creating a custom sort list with the dates for every day for the 4 years, followed by A to Z? I've searched and searched Google, and i find similar issues, but nothing exactly the same that addresses my problem, mostly the opposite problem.

Dont know if it makes much difference, but I'm running excel 2010 on windows 7.

I do not understand why it should be but if you select 'More sort options' when sorting the field then select 'More Options...' and uncheck the automatically sort option then change the First key sort order to something apart from "No calculation", the sort is correct.

That works, not sure why it's doing it like this, but it's fixed now anyway. Thanks very much!!!
