    line charts with multiple fields

    Hello,

My problem with the subject is 2-folds and I hope you can help out.

    1) I wanted to chart a line graph with 3 variables while I have days of the month in the x axis, frequency in the y axis. The 3 variable will be inputted as letters in an excel spreadsheet such that a letter in day 2 and frequency 6 means that that particular trait (e.g. a) was exhibited 6 times on day 2 - please see attached.
    2) my second issue is that we could have the same frequency for the 2 or more variables (e.g. a and b and c). So, how can this be inputted so that excel can recognize and chart the values inputted in the table. So for example on day 5, it so happens that we have the exact number of occurrences /frequencies for all 3 traits.

I don't want to keep multiple worksheets to hold each trait, is there a way out?

    Thank you!line chart.xls

I think really your problem is that you're setting the data up badly.

Put it in a table properly: where there are four columns that populate down by rows for each data.
The first row is the independent variable (the date)
Rows two-four are dependent variables (different behaviors for each date)

Then charting is as easy as highlighting the data and clicking Line Chart.
    Bam, you're done.

Well, even if you're attached to the layout of table you already have (I think it's more confusing but I'm trained to look at data a certain way), Excel needs it in that kind of table, so the best we could do is grind it from that to a proper table to feed to the chart.

    Thank you so much.
You're right. I'll also convince the person that needs it that the reorganized way is the best format.
