Scatter plot with intervals instead of single values

    Hi everyone,

this is my first post It is a problem I have recently encountered when I tried to chart a large number of machine types with regard to their rpm and power ranges. Given data in the following form

    Type minrpm maxrpm minpower maxpower
    A 300 2000 10 20
    B 400 6000 30 50

I would like to create a scatter plot that displays all the machine types in one graph. The x-axis is supposed to be the rpm value and y-axis power. I have looked up different combinations of keywords but I couldnt find out if there is a way I could fill the scatter plot in excel with intervals instead of values so the resulting graph contains rectangular fields instead of points. Those fields should be able to overlap and if possible automatically adapt depending on changes in the rpm and power values they are based on. I have seen workarounds with column charts, which are however not feasible due to the large amount of data I am using.

I have attached an image plot.jpg I found in an article that shows exactly how it is supposed to look like.

If it turns out to be impossible, do you recommend any other programs that will come handy for this? I have very little experience with MATLAB but I would give it a shot. However, I think at least with VBA a solution in excel should be possible. Looking forward to your answers.

You need to build data the chart can use to draw those areas. For each set of Min/Max pairs you need to generate 5 data points.
