Create a self filling GANNT Chart

    Hi,

I am trying to create a pipeline and projecting took for our company which includes a Gannt chart. Now, what i want to do is make this as simple as possible to fill out for the users (we are using this on google docs as a collaborative tool). I have included the file below. Now what i want to do is this:

    1. In the "H" and "I" columns i would like to (if possible) have a calendar pop up for selecting dates (like on many web sites)

    2. In the columns between AD and CP i would like to color in for the corresponding dates to 1.), the color will be selected based on the selection in the D colomumn (Project manager)

Is this at all possible to automate in excel (google docs), and how would i go about doing so?

All help would be greatly appreciated!

Be aware that Google Docs is not Excel. Google Docs can import and export using the Excel file format, and it supports many of the same features that Excel has, but it is not Excel.

For #1, you almost certainly need to use VBA (macros), which is not supported in GD. It may have its own macro language; I don't know. But even if it does, you wouldn't be able to go back and forth between Excel and GD.

I do not know what GD supports as far as conditional formatting, which you need for #2. For Excel, you would set up a formatting rule for the cells that the value of the date for that column is >= the date in column H and <= the date in column I, plus a dependency on the value in column D. I no longer have access to Excel 2003 (what your profile shows) and I don't remember how to set up conditional formatting rules in that version (it was changed in Excel 2007). You would have define all the desired colors for possible values in column D in advance, or use a more VBA here.

Re: Create a self filling GANNT Chart

Thank you for some great feedback 65string.

On regards of excel version and excel vs gdisk, this document will only be used on google disk because of the collaborative nature of the file, I just exported it to give you guys an example.

As for 1) Thats what i feared, however i thought this might be done through some plugins which i am currently researching.

    2) Right, does anyone have som ecperience with this in google docs? I trying to figure it out now but that proves difficult.

    Again, thanks for reply.
